Every year across the globe,International Women’s Day events are held. To mark this important event Hiiraan Online and Somali Women Circle Network hosted for the first time a Fagaaraha [Town Hall] Forum in Ottawa, Canada.

The theme of the event was Somali Women and Leadership. The event brought together many women activists, young professionals and researchers who discussed the role of Somali women in leadership positions and lack of political participation and ways to overcome the challenges that Somali women face.

Panelists who participated in the event included Fowsiya Abdulkadir, Farhia Abdi, Nimco Mohamed Ali Abokar, Abdia Sheekh Ahmed and Fadumo Dayib. Most speakers emphasized that actions must focus on areas of broad concern and someday more will not only envision a Somalia where each women and girl can participate all aspects of community life but will support implementation of inclusionary steps.
